Artist Barbara Z. Pecce, a resident of
Puerto Rico since 1970, began her formal art training by Pecce paints in the traditional transparent watercolor method, with an aura of brilliant light resulting from the use of bright topical colors contrasted by shadows rich in color and reflected light. Light and the patterns it makes are the continuing focus of her work. In addition to original watercolors, limited edition prints and note cards are available.
The Asociacion de Acuarelistas recently dedicated an exhibition at the Colegio de Ingenieros (San Juan, Puerto Rico) to artist Barbara Z Pecce. She was presented with a plaque which was engraved "For your dedication to the art of watercolor, your vision, leadership, discipline and ethics for achieving excellence".
Artist's Statement As a child growing up in Miami, Florida, I knew that I wanted to be an artist. One of the best gifts I ever received was a ream (500 sheets) of blank newsprint, on which I spent hours drawing everything around me. I drew my dog, tropical flowers and periwinkles, Elephant Ear vines wrapping around the trunks of palm trees and copied from magazines and comic books. I practiced perspective tricks I learned from my father and figure and fashion drawing inspired by my mother. We always had a project in progress. All my favorite activities were and are art related.
